We Tried the New Hershey's Gold Candy Bar
Hershey's first new candy bar in more 20 years will accept you feeling like you've constitute a golden ticket.
From chocolate cakes to brownies, chocolate chip cookies and pies, Hershey's products have long been major players in anybody'south favorite corrupt desserts. This year, the company is unveiling a brand-new candy bar, Hershey's Gilt—the beginning new flavour since 1994, when the Cookies 'due north' Creme bar came out. The Gold bar is a departure from what you'd look from Hershey in that it contains absolutely no chocolate. Instead, the Gold bar is caramel creme-flavored, with bits of peanuts and pretzels throughout. When I heard about this new treat, I knew I had to get my hands on it and try a bite. Here's what y'all need to know:
The Start Impression
From the first glance, I could tell the Hershey'southward Gilded bar wasn't going to be similar any candy bar I'd had before—primarily considering I hadn't seen packaging that looked like the Aureate bar'southward, especially from Hershey. The wrapping definitely plays upward the bar's caramel flavor with its cream, beige and chocolate-brown hues, and the blue, orange and foam retro stripes at the sides add an element of fun. The wrapper also accentuates the bar'due south main ingredients with a small moving-picture show of peanuts and a pretzel, just the real star is a caramel moving ridge and splash along the bottom of the wrapper. Because of the caramel decoration, every bit well as the term "caramelized creme" above the bar'due south name, I was anticipating major caramel season and appreciated Hershey taking an extra stride to hammer habitation that this was a candy bar, non a chocolate bar.

Unwrapped
When I opened the packaging, I was striking with the sugariness smell of peanut butter, with but a lingering scent of caramel and pretzels. I was a little surprised the caramel aroma didn't come up through as much as I idea information technology would, merely the aroma was a perfect balance of sugariness and salty, and so I was super excited for my first bite.
Before that initial nibble, though, I checked out what the bar itself looked like. The Gold bar is a darker beige-brown colour, chock-full of peanut and pretzel chunks. Since all 3 of the main ingredients are shades of tan and chocolate-brown, the bar's muted colour wasn't too surprising, just the added variation of the peanut and pretzel pieces definitely helped it expect more appetizing.
The segmentation of the bar strayed from a traditional Hershey's chocolate bar. The Gold bar has only nine pieces that alternating betwixt horizontal and vertical placements. This layout fabricated the bar seem like it would yield less processed than other Hershey bars, since you would have to interruption off a third of the bar for simply ane slice. But since the Gold bar is merely about a tenth of an ounce lighter than a regular chocolate bar or the Cookies 'n' Creme bar (1.4 oz versus ane.55 oz), the candy yield is still high.
The Gustatory modality Examination
Caramel lovers, rejoice, considering the Gold bar is definitely for you. With my first bite, I got a major caramel flavour with a salty peanut gustatory modality coming in a little after. As I kept chewing, the sweet of the caramel and salty of the peanut and pretzel kept alternate, making the bar not gustation overly sweetness or salty, simply striking an amazing residuum betwixt the two.
Psst! Craving more caramel? Try these gooey desserts.
While the pretzel doesn't add much flavor other than saltiness, it definitely provides texture. The Gilded bar has a crisp crunch with each bite. Coupled with the caramel and peanut flavors, it reminds me a lot of a homemade toffee. And paired with the rich caramel creme, this bar definitely left me reaching for another slice.
The Final Verdict
If y'all're someone who can never seem to make up one's mind between a sweet and salty snack, yous're going to want to stock upward on Hershey's Gilt bars. The delicious balance betwixt these two flavors, plus the fun texture, makes this processed bar i you'll definitely want to pick upward on your adjacent grocery store run.
